I had the joy of photographing Kirby and Patrick, a couple whose love story is as adventurous as their spirits. Set to get married next year, they love spending time together outdoors, so we headed to the Boise foothills—one of their favorite spots for hiking, picnics, and enjoying the simple moments of life.

Our session was relaxed and full of joy, as we decided to embrace the environment they adore. We spread out a picnic blanket, turned up some music, and even popped a bottle of champagne to celebrate their upcoming wedding. I love how engagement sessions give me a chance to really connect with my couples, allowing us to slow down and just enjoy the moment without feeling rushed by poses or a ticking clock.

One of my favorite parts of the day was when we all sat down together, and I asked Kirby to share what she loves most about Patrick and what she’s most excited for in their marriage. Her answer was so genuine—it moved Patrick to tears. She said, “He is the happiest person I know. No matter what the day was like, he always has a smile on his face and brightens my day. His laugh is contagious, and he brings out the best in me. I’m most excited to get to spend every day with my best friend who I love so much.”

Capturing love like theirs is truly a gift. There’s something so special about getting a glimpse of the deep connection between two people and being able to turn those moments into lasting memories. Kirby and Patrick’s love is effortless, full of laughter, and grounded in the everyday adventure of being each other’s best friend.
